"Salt of Svaneti" — a Georgian film that changed the language of cinema
About
We will be watching it on April 30 at the Papers bar — come!
The film tells the story of a community in Svaneti — a region separated by mountains from the rest of Georgia. In the 1920s, the residents faced a salt shortage: as a result, livestock perished, and people's health deteriorated. This story became the basis for the plot of Mikhail Kalatozov's film.
The film will be presented by film scholar Keti Tsikhtishvili. She will introduce you to the context of the film's creation and the work of director Kalatozov, as well as discuss the editing and cinematographic solutions that transformed "Salt of Svaneti" into a vivid example of visual avant-garde.
The lecture will be conducted in Russian
