A walk through the Jewish cemetery
About
What do Jewish symbols on ancient tombstones mean? We will explain it on a walk through a forgotten cemetery.
In the Tbilisi area of Navtlugi, near the "Samgori" metro station, lies a cemetery from the pre-last century — here you can stroll between dilapidated vaults and admire the whimsical tombstones.
On Saturday, February 28, we will go there with historian and author of the course "Readers of Tombstones," Vitaly Shtybin — walking among the tombstones and deciphering ancient symbols on Jewish graves. He will explain how cemetery architecture is structured, how the graves here differ from typical Georgian memorials, and what connection this has to the grandmother of former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.
