A walk through the Jewish cemetery
About
What do Jewish symbols on ancient tombstones mean? We will discuss it during a walk through the forgotten cemetery on January 31
In the Tbilisi district of Navtlugi, near the "Samgori" metro station, lies a cemetery from the previous century—here you can walk among dilapidated crypts and examine whimsical tombstones.
On Saturday, January 31, together with historian and author of the course "Readers of Tombstones," Vitaly Shtybin, we will head there—to stroll among the graves and decipher ancient symbols on Jewish tombs. He will explain how cemetery architecture is structured, how the graves here differ from typical Georgian memorials, and what connection this has to the grandmother of former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.
The tour will be conducted in Russian.
Location: Jewish cemetery in Navtlugi (5 minutes on foot from the "Samgori" metro station).
