Monuments of Georgia: architecture, history, politics
About
Monuments are the language through which society speaks about its history. In Georgia, this has transformed over time: classic statues of national heroes have been replaced by large memorial complexes.
You will learn how this happened at the lecture on March 24. Anna Pestova, an urban environment historian and guide, will discuss which heroes were commemorated with monuments, which of them sparked debates and conflicts. And most importantly: why some events become monuments while others are erased from memory.
