Tour to Vardzia

Let's go on a one-day tour — to explore the cave city of Vardzia and Georgian medieval fortresses We will start by visiting the oldest medieval forts in Georgia — the watchtower fortress of Atsquri and the fortress of Khertvisi perched on a high cliff overlooking the Mtkvari River. Both structures were built before the 10th century. Next, we will head to Vardzia itself — a cave monastery city of the 12th century, from the era of Queen Tamar. It is a gigantic refuge city with cells, dining halls, and plumbing — a place to take shelter in case of enemy attack. Additionally, it offers an impressive view of the Mtkvari valley. Accompanying us on the trip will be Vlasi Vatsadze — Doctor of Historical Sciences, former director of the Uplistsikhe Museum and an expert on the history of Georgia. The trip will take one day. We leave at eight in the morning and return around nine in the evening. Transportation is included in the cost of the trip. We will have lunch at a cafe not far from Vardzia — lunch is not included in the cost, so please bring cash and a card. We also recommend wearing comfortable shoes, as there will be a lot of walking!
